Biennale de Dakar 2018 . Mon Super Kilomètre est une installation urbaine et culturelle qui s'est déployée sur un kilomètre durant La Biennale de Dakar dans le quartier de la Médina.

Mon Super Kilomètre c’est au début de l’urbanisme, de l’installation artistique et de la programmation : les trois éléments nous aident à commencer, ils vont générer de la ville et ce kilomètre, cette ligne qui bouge, qui se place et se met en mouvement.
C’est alors une programmation urbaine linéaire : on connaît la ville linéaire celle le long de la route, « mon super kilomètre » c’est un magasin sur une ligne, une ligne qui fait lien entre les quartiers, une ligne libre d’interprétations et d’installations : une ligne pour les artistes mais aussi pour les habitants des quartiers qu’elle traverse.
On veut revenir à la ville africaine : le commerce, la musique, la nourriture, les services, la publicité, les objets de consommation et la répétition : la ville africaine c’est la répétition des outils, des biens de consommations, de matériaux de construction déballés, improvisés sur la route.
Mon Super Kilomètre c’est de la culture urbaine, l’organique, un mélange dans une figure stricte de la ligne, d’une échelle de ville : le kilomètre. Le plan de ville ou plutôt le quartier se détend par une méga installation -programmation du quotidien et de l’exceptionnel.
C’est facile à mettre en place, dans une économie de moyens absolue du système constructif, dans l’économie de la vente au linéaire, du sponsoring, de la publicité, de la donation : ce mélange se lit avec les matières déployées : voiles bleues dans les Alizés, panneaux d’affichages, structure métallique, lumière : c’est un matériau urbain dans son tout : la matière.

Cette matière, c’est celle que l’on cherche : pas celle que l’on veut comprendre et analyser, c’est celle que l’on veut transporter et utiliser. Mon Super Kilomètre c’est cet échantillon, prototype d’un moment d’une vitalité qui doit inventer tous les jours pour continuer. Faire avec le minimum de moyens pour construire c’est son sens.

My Super Kilometer is an analysis that reflects the DNA of the African city dweller, of the people of the city.

Conceiving and understanding African cities requires forgetting our own cities based on planning and regulations, and looking at its symbols, its landmarks and monuments. You must be able to spend some time in it on your own, be alone for a while, get lost in it until you can sense its physicality. Its reflexes, its improvisations and informality - because form as we crave it disappears - deconstruction is gone, collages are gone, so are post-modernism and strategies. The only thing left is substance.

My Super Kilometer is essentially about urban planning, about art installations and programming: these are the three components that will create this kilometer in the city, tracing this shifting line, ramping up.

My Super Kilometer boasts shops on a line that links the different districts, with free interpretations and installations, for artists as well as for the inhabitants of the areas it crosses.

We want to set up a linear African urban programming approach with shops, music, food, services, advertising, consumer articles, and repetition - African cities imply repetition - tools, consumer goods, and unpacked construction materials improvised on the road.

My Super Kilometer means urban, human, animal and plant culture, a happy chaos in a strict linear track at the scale of the city: one kilometer. The plan of the city or district spreads and circulates through massive installation/programming of both everyday life and exceptional moments.

This coming together of creativity and day-to-dayness becomes manifest through abundantly deployed gold and silver tarps, billboards, metal structures and lighting effects.

My Super Kilometer is a sample, the prototype for a moment of great vitality that has to reinvent itself every single day in order to move forward. Designed with great simplicity, along the Boulevard de la Gueule Tapée which is the dividing line between the Medina to the North and the Fann District to the East, My Super Kilometer stretches from City Hall all the way to the Soumbédioune fish market on the corniche facing the splendor of the ocean.
